History

The Franklin County Community Foundation (FCCF), established in 1987, is a regional foundation of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. FCCF makes discretionary grants to nonprofit organizations in Franklin County. FCCF also serves as a vehicle for individuals, companies, foundations, and charitable organizations to establish funds that will support the civic, social, educational, and cultural well-being of individuals living in Franklin County. FCCF ensures that all gifts, ranging from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars, will work to improve the quality of life for Franklin County residents, today and in the future.

Grants

FCCF conducts an annual competitive grantmaking program for nonprofit organizations serving Franklin county. FCCF’s strategic grantmaking focus is to invest in innovative, collaborative approaches and solutions to community problems, and to support projects that demonstrate achievable outcomes, the potential for replication as a model program, and plans for sustainability beyond the grant term. The overarching goal is to fund programs and services that have the potential for the greatest impact on the quality of life and positive outcomes for individuals and families living in Franklin county.

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library 

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library will use the grant for the 2024 Summer Reading Program. This program is a formalized literacy program bridging school years, preventing “summer slide,” building a literacy-rich community, and encouraging patrons to engage with a plethora of community and educational resources.

Blue Mountain Escape, Inc.

Blue Mountain Escape strives to provide Franklin County with safe, structured housing and recovery services for victims of substance use disorders that focus on women, pregnant and postpartum women, and women with children. Funds will support emergency basic needs and workforce development programs.

Boys & Girls Club of Chambersburg and Shippensburg

The grant will support the SMART Moves prevention and an education program that addresses problems such as: drug and alcohol use, premature sexual activity, promoting abstinence from substance abuse and adolescent sexual involvement through the practice of responsible behavior.

Central Pennsylvania Food Bank

Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB) will use the grant to provide fresh, nutritious food to military and veteran families living with hunger in Franklin County in order to support their health and well-being.

Christian Life Church

The grant will support a pilot, free after-school program for children from low to moderate-income families in Chambersburg. CLC is a church committed to meeting the human needs of their neighbors including food, clothing, crisis support, and connection.

Council for the Arts

The Council for the Arts will use the grant for the expansion of the Free Arts Education Program. The program is aimed at creating free programs, workshops, and expert-led creative experiences to members of Franklin County.

Cumberland Valley School of Music

CVSM & First Start Partnerships (FSP) offers an Arts Integrated Preschool experience for high-need and at-risk preschool children. In Fall 2023, the program will expand with two additional classrooms, offering the program in 13 classrooms.

Diaper Depot Central 

Diaper Depot at Central seeks to assist local families who have difficulty affording the costly, but necessary, item of disposable diapers. This grant will support families so that each family may register up to three children and receive 50 diapers or 15 training pants per child.

Employment Skills Center

This grant will provide Nurse Aide Training, free of charge, to residents of Franklin County. Graduates will help fill a critical need for frontline healthcare workers.

Fannett-Metal Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company

Fannett-Metal Volunteer Fire & Ambulance Company will use the grant to purchase equipment that will elevate the service the company provides to the citizens, travelers, and property of Path Valley.

Franklin County Historical Society – Kittochtinny

This grant will support the Franklin County Historical Society 2023-2024 Exhibit Season. The season encompasses conservation and restoration of historically or culturally important heritage art pieces, curation and display, and community education.

Franklin County Legal Services

Franklin County Legal Services’ project “Meeting Basic Needs through Legal Services” protects housing, family, livelihood, and other human needs by providing legal services to low-income residents of Franklin County faced with civil legal issues. This grant will support the program.

Franklin Fire Company

The Franklin Fire Company will use the grant for the Station 4 Ladder Truck’s saw replacements project. This project will enhance the protection of life and property for the citizens of Franklin County.

Friends of Fannett-Metal Athletics

The grant will support installing a LED scoreboard at the Fannett-Metal School athletic field.

Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12

Franklin County Literacy Council (FCLC), adult education division of Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12, will use the grant to expand services to Waynesboro and Shippensburg where it can meet the growing demand for adult literacy and English language learners.

Penns Youth Initiative

Penns Youth Initiative will use the grant to support the REAL Essentials curriculum, specifically designed to help young people in Franklin County develop skills for forming healthy relationships and self-identity, building a foundation for long-term success.

Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research

This grant will support the Mobile Biomedical Science Program for elementary and middle school students in Franklin County. The SPARC mobile science program will increase the number of students engaging with STEM education and careers by bringing biomedical concepts, hands-on activities, and career pathway guidance to Franklin County schools and afterschool programs.

Shippensburg University Foundation

This grant will help create a team of Peer Educators, sexual assault advocates, and campus administrators to partner in crisis response, education, and accountability around healthy sexuality and sexual violence for the Shippensburg University community.

South Central Community Action Programs

South Central Community Action Programs will use the grant to support the Gleaning Project. The project was created to address two needs – food insecurity and food waste.

The Nicodemus Center for Ceramic Studies Inc.

The grant will support the EXPLORE initiative that brings free introductory pottery experiences to communities in Franklin County.

Waynesboro Community & Human Services

Waynesboro Community & Human Services will use the grant to support the Community Health Nurse program. The program provides quality in-home nursing to health-vulnerable adults who would benefit from such care but lack the means to obtain it. The goal is to improve client outcomes and reduce hospital re-admission.

Waynesboro Community Concert Association

The grant will support two concerts in 2024 – one honoring veterans and the other honoring first responders.
