Dunkelberger Family Scholarship Fund

Roland E. Dunkelberger, born October 15th, 1928, grew up and lived most of his life in Perry County. He enjoyed antique cars and their restoration, and in earlier years working on the family farm and orchard. Roland was a 1945 graduate of the Landisburg Joint High School. Roland was also member of Christ Lutheran Church of New Bloomfield and a former member of the New Bloomfield Fire Company. Roland worked as the Post Master at the U.S. Post Office in New Bloomfield for 30 years. Roland wanted to become a lawyer, but due to a lack of funds, he was unable to attend college. After retiring from the post office, Roland moved to Hershey, PA and became very active in the Hershey Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, serving as president of the Hershey Region in 1978.

Ruth M. Dunkleberger, born November 26, 1928, was raised on a dairy farm near Blain, in Perry County, Pa. After graduating from Blain High School, she went to work for Pa. State Youth Services in Harrisburg, Pa. After her retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper at a local car dealership in New Bloomfield and with the New Bloomfield Pool Assoc. She was a member of the New Bloomfield Fire Company and helped members complete the restoration of the antique Hahn fire truck. Ruth was a quiet person interested in the history of Perry County. During her lifetime, she sewed and created hundreds of beautiful quilts. She gave them to family and friends. She was an active member of the Hershey Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Ruth & Roland remained connected and concerned about their community in Perry County, specifically areas that they felt were depressed.

The Dunkelberger Family Scholarship Fund was established in their honor & memory to support students graduating from West Perry High School with plans to continue their education at a college, university or a trade or technical school.
