Mahlon Kester Memorial Scholarship
Mahlon Kester, 2013 alumni of Curwensville High School, passed away on October 14th, 2022 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash. Mahlon’s sudden passing left a huge hole in the lives of many, including his wife and young daughter who was born just 3 weeks after his passing. This scholarship is set up to honor the life Mahlon lived, the legacy he left behind, and how his memory can now be used to support other’s dreams.
Mahlon was heavily involved in the church & held a strong faith. He loved to be active by playing soccer, singing in choir and theater productions, leading the drumline and spending time outside with his wife and two dogs. He pursued a dual major of biblical/religious studies and a foreign language degree. Following college, he enlisted in the Airforce Reserves as an Air Fuel Technician and was awarded several honors for
his achievements. He graduated as an Honor Graduate in the top 10% at Basic Military Training and advanced through the ranks to become a Senior Airman. Following his death, his wife was presented an award denoting him as the 927 ARW Airman of the Month November 2022 in Tampa, Florida to honor his years of service and the impact he made. Despite all his achievements, he felt that helping individuals find their strengths in life and living out his faith through kindness and leadership was his true responsibility – and the many that knew him would agree he achieved this goal.
He supported friends going through difficult times and found great joy in serving others and was invested in listening to your tribulations and guiding you to where you will be in the future. He believed in living and leading by example, and shared stories of his own life to help guide others. He lived by the belief that serving others is the best way to serve God and would be honored to know how you plan to do the same in your own lives and the lives of those around you.
This scholarship was created to help students that feel that same calling, whether through ministry, performing arts, or simply by being both a good leader and a good teammate.
