Scholarship support allows Penn State student Cassandra Zart to pursue a career helping others heal, grow and give back.
Cassandra Zart believes the human body tells a story. It moves, adapts and grows.
For Zart, understanding that story has become both her passion and her career path. A junior at Pennsylvania State University, Zart is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology with a focus on movement science. The field studies how the body moves and how that knowledge can improve health. The field also allows her to work directly with people, something that matters deeply to her.
“I love knowing what the human body can do,” Zart said. “But more than that, I love helping people understand their own potential.”
Zart’s interest in health and movement began through sports and running during her school years. Over time, she realized she enjoyed sharing what she learned with others. Helping teammates work through injuries or improve their performance showed her that knowledge can make a real difference in someone’s life. That realization guided her decision to pursue kinesiology at Penn State. The program matched her interests in science and service. It also opened doors to experiences that helped her grow as a student and as a leader.
Learning Through Service
One example of that growth has been serving as a learning assistant for a statistics class. In that role, she helps fellow students work through challenging concepts. Instead of simply giving answers, she guides them with questions that help them discover the solution themselves.
“You have to help the student find the answer within themselves,” Zart said.
The experience strengthened her ability to meet people where they are at by really listening and asking intentional questions. With that understanding Zart can then encourage others in the classroom to build up from where they are at.. It also reflects her belief that learning is strongest when people support each other along the way.
Opportunity Made Possible Through Scholarships
Scholarship support has played a key role in making that experience possible. Through scholarships managed by TFEC, Zart has received more than $32,000 in tuition assistance. The support has enabled her to attend her dream school, Penn State, while focusing on her studies and community involvement.
“Because of these scholarships, I can focus on learning and serving,” she said. “I do not have to chase money while I am in school.”
The impact of scholarship support also extends beyond campus. Zart’s family has always encouraged her education and celebrated her ambitions but don’t have the means to match such level Zart wanted to pursue. Scholarships filled this gap and helped remove financial pressure and created space for her to pursue opportunities that enriched her college experience. With that support in place, Zart has been able to focus on her education and fully embrace her experience at Penn State.
Looking Ahead
Zart hopes to continue her education in a doctoral program for physical therapy. Before beginning that program, she plans to spend a year serving people without reliable access to health care. The volunteer program would allow her to assist individuals who are uninsured or underinsured while gaining experience in patient care.
After completing her doctorate, Zart hopes to work as a physical therapist, helping patients recover and improve their quality of life. She also hopes to stay involved in her community through mentoring and volunteer work.
Carrying Generosity Forward
Zart says the generosity of scholarship donors has shaped how she thinks about her future. Their investment has shown her the power of people helping one another reach their potential.
“Thank you for valuing education and sharing your hard-earned money,” Zart said, speaking directly to the donors who funded her scholarship.
Through her work in health care and her commitment to service, she hopes to carry that generosity forward. The support she received today will help her serve patients and strengthen the community she calls home.
For the donors who made her education possible, the impact of their generosity will continue far beyond a single student. It will live on through the people she helps in the years ahead.
