The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area (HSHA) is funded solely by the community and is unable to complete its lifesaving mission without support from individuals, businesses, and organizations like TFEC. HSHA became a no-kill shelter in 2024 by increasing its life release rate to meet the 90% national standard in under a year, as well as enhancing lifesaving efforts across the board. Highlights include caring for 3,261 in 2024 vs. 1,781 in 2023; placing 3,072 animals in 2024 vs. 1,543 in 2023; and performing 4,685 spay/neuter surgeries in 2024 vs. 949 in 2024.
Being able to provide these services to our community cannot happen without funding and support.
How have you used the funds from the agency fund to further your mission?
The funds received had gone directly to care of the animals and our programming. In addition to the over 3,000 animals we care for each year, we offer vital services to the community. This includes low-cost veterinary care for family pets, pet food pantry, vaccine clinics, lost/found services, and behavior counseling to name a few.
