HomeBuilders Association Scholarship Fund

The Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Harrisburg established its Scholarship Program in 1987.  Each year this Association awards 5-10 up to $2000 scholarships to local area youth based on academic factors, applicant performance and career goals, with extra consideration given to students furthering their education in the Building/Construction Industry and related fields such as Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, etc. These awards include the following named scholarships: the Howard C. Gale Excellence Scholarship, the Wayne Yohe Memorial Scholarship, the Dustin Lenker Memorial Scholarship, and the Garman Builders Phil Shatto Legacy Scholarship. The Association is an enthusiastic supporter of students preparing for the future work force in the Building Industry.

Applicants for the scholarship grants from the HomeBuilders Association Scholarship Fund will be considered for the following named scholarships provided they meet the specific criteria noted below: 

The Wayne Yohe Memorial Scholarship
Will be awarded to a student who has graduated from a career or technology center in Dauphin, Cumberland, or Perry county or plans to attend a post-secondary career and technical school.  

The Howard C. Gale Excellence Scholarship
Will be awarded to a student who has graduated from a career or technology center in Dauphin, Cumberland, or Perry county, has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, and plans to enter a construction related field.  

The DustinLenker Memorial Scholarship
Will be awarded to a student who has graduated from Dauphin County Technical School or attended Lenkerville Elementary School, and plans to enter a field related to the visual arts or construction industry.  

The Garman Builders Phil Shatto Legacy Scholarship
Will be awarded to a student who plans to enter a construction related field.

Scholarship FAQ

Criteria

  1. Students who have graduated from a High School in Dauphin, Cumberland, or Perry counties 
  2. Plans to attend an institution of higher learning or trade school furthering their education. Extra consideration is given to students in the building industry or related fields 
  3. Evidence of academic excellence 
  4. Involvement in school activities 
  5. Financial need 
  6. Essay
  7. Supplemental documents. This may include a resume, letter(s) of recommendation, transcript, FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR), or other scholarship-specific documents. Specific requirements are noted in the application.

Essay

Describe your career goals and the reason this scholarship should be awarded to you. Minimum 200 words.

Renewability

Recipients of this scholarship may apply again for three additional years. Students must submit a full application but may be prompted to complete a different essay.
