Lawrence and Julia Z. Hoverter Scholarship

The Lawrence and Julia Z. Hoverter Scholarship Fund will award a graduating senior from Greenwood High School and Newport High School who has shown a commitment to community service and will be entering a service-related field (i.e., social work, nursing, church, teaching, working with non-profits, etc.). The Lawrence and Julia Z. Hoverter Scholarship is typically not awarded to the top student in a class, but is instead given to a “B” average student who shows great initiative in a service-related field.

Scholarship FAQ

Criteria

  1. Graduating senior of Greenwood High School or Newport High School 
  2. Demonstrated initiative and desire to lead a life of service 
  3. Service to the community/work experience in a service-related field  
  4. Academic achievement, though initiative and desire to lead a life of service takes precedence over GPA (i.e. recipients are typically not the top student in a class, but are instead “B” average student who show great initiative in service-related fields) 
  5. Financial need 
  6. Essay
  7. Supplemental documents. This may include a resume, letter(s) of recommendation, transcript, FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR), or other scholarship-specific documents. Specific requirements are noted in the application.

Essay

Describe your interest and ambitions in your chosen career field and what you hope to accomplish. Essay should be titled, 300 words maximum.

Renewability

This scholarship will automatically renew for up to four years provided the student maintains a B average. Students must submit a transcript and tuition bill each semester in order for the scholarship to be renewed.
