DressForSucessCentralPA_LogoThe Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) President and CEO Janice R. Black announced today that the Women’s Fund Power of the Purse fundraising event held on Sept. 15 raised more than $18,000 that will be used to make grants to nonprofit organizations working to better the lives of women and girls in the region.

“The Women’s Fund has granted more than $79,400 to 38 organizations over the past seven years in support of programs that advance the lives of women and girls,” said President and CEO Black. “We’ll continue to raise awareness of the issues women and girls face so that we can address their needs to make a positive impact that will strengthen families and our community.”

The Women’s Fund is a special initiative of TFEC whose mission is to broaden awareness of and respond to issues affecting women and girls through the power of collective philanthropy in South Central Pennsylvania.

The Women’s Fund, with the help of Classic Drycleaners and Laundromats, organized a purse drive on behalf of Dress for Success South Central PA. The purse drive collected 400 purses that will be given to women in the region to help them achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency.

“These purses are symbolic in so many ways, such as, providing hope for the future by breaking the cycle of poverty,” said Ruth Koup, Founder and CEO of Dress for Success South Central PA. “They are an object of pride for a woman who can now fill her purse with her life’s story, which includes a paycheck and a checkbook. Thank you all for helping to make this happen.”

Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Since 2007, Dress for Success South Central PA has assisted over 9,000 low-income women with career training and professional clothing as they work towards their goal of self-sufficiency.
