Basic Playdough Recipe
Ingredients needed:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 up salt
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- Food coloring of your choice
Directions:
- In a large bowl add and mix all of the dry ingredients.
- In a large pot over the stove add the water and vegetable oil. If you would like to make your playdough colorful, add the food color now to the water.
- Add the dry ingredients to the pot. Mix all of the ingredients with a wooden spoon.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture forms a ball.
- Once you have a ball, place the ball on the counter or a cutting board. (You may want to flour the surface). Once it has slightly cooled to where you can knead it without burning your hand, knead the dough until it is smooth.
- Place the dough in a plastic bag or airtight container. The playdough should last for a couple of weeks.
Variations:
- Gingerbread:
o Add cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and all spice or add pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon
- Kool-Aid:
o Add 2 packets of any flavor Kool-Aid to the water before adding the dry ingredients.
Shivery Snow Paint Recipe
Items needed:
- Shaving Cream
- White school glue
- Peppermint extract:
- Iridescent glitter
Directions:
- You will want to begin by popping your shaving cream and glue in the refrigerator. We left ours there overnight and then made our paint the next morning. We left our glue out on the counter for about ten minutes just to get it flowing.
- Mix equal parts of glue and shaving cream in a bowl. This is a rough estimate; we always free pour.
- Sprinkle in glitter or buffalo snow. We used a lot just because my girls are glitter happy and love sparkle.
- Add a few drops of peppermint extract and mix.
- Finish the paint off with more glitter.
