Keeping it in the Family

There are many ways to give and unlike many misconceptions about philanthropic endeavors, you don’t have to have a lot of money to make an impact. That is why many community foundations are encouraging citizens to take an active role in charitable giving through involving their whole family.

What’s great about family philanthropy is that it allows everyone to add their resources together to provide for a cause or need they believe in. While any amount of giving is impactful, pooling funds together as a family team is not only a bonding experience, but also an opportunity to expand the benefits to your causes.

Educating our children and future generations on the importance of being a leader in addressing issues and helping others in need is essential to the strengthening and the enhancement of our communities. One way to get our younger generations involved and engaged in improving their community is by creating a family fund.

Working together as a family to identify a need or cause to support is a unique opportunity to bring everyone to the table to work as a team toward a common goal. The Foundation for Enhancing Communities wants to make it easier for families striving to make a difference.

The Foundation for Enhancing Communities can provide philanthropic families the support and guidance they need to make the most of their giving and to achieve their charitable goals. Families can establish a fund at TFEC that allows them, together to grant funds to a nonprofit organization of their choice. The Donor Advised Fund offers the greatest flexibility. Families can choose whether to create a permanent fund in which only income is granted and the principal grows in perpetuity or a nonpermanent fund where all the earnings and principals can be granted.

Families establishing a permanent fund ensure grants will be available forever for community needs, creating a lasting family legacy that will benefit the community for generations today and tomorrow.

Families looking to help educate youth can create a scholarship fund for any educational level and can be a part of selecting the scholarship awardees with assistance from TFEC who will also manage the application process and administer the award and payments on behalf of the family.

These are just a few examples of the opportunities TFEC provides on ways to give back. Families interested in learning more or how to get started should visit www.TFEC.org, email info@TFEC.org or call 717.236.5040.
