Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship Fund Recipient

What school are you attending?

I am attending Penn State University – Hazleton Campus, then plan to go to main campus and the Smeal College of Business for my last two years.

What is your major/minor?

I am going for business, but not sure what area I want to get into. The top three areas I am interested in are Management, Finance, and Marketing, but I am open and not limited to just those areas.

Why did you choose that major?

Business is something has interested me since I got into fitness. I have been learning from CEO’s, motivational speakers, athletes, etc. that have their own businesses and investments. It made me interested in how things worked. I am an analytical person, so it goes hand in hand.

What year in college are you?

I am in my sophomore year.

What is your favorite thing about the school you’re attending?

Penn State has a lot of pride and character. The students stand behind the school for sports, community events, and charitable giving. PSU does a lot of good, and students and staff seem to be very driven with everything.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to exercise, play sports, read, and learn anything and everything I can in the fields I am interested in. One thing I do enjoy doing is getting on LinkedIn and searching for people who share common areas of interest. I find them, read over their profile, create a document full of questions – ranging from school and internships, to skills and advice –  ask to connect.

What are your goals?

My goals for school are to get into the Penn State Smeal College of Business, take advantage of networking opportunities, get a great internship with a company I want to work for, and land a job after graduation.

My life goals are to have a great career in business and/or sports/fitness, give back to those who gave to me and helped me out throughout my life – especially my mother – live with freedom and prosperity, surround myself with like-minded individuals that have high standards, and to make sure my mother is happy and healthy.

What is a cause that is important to you?

Children. Easter Seals is something I was involved in, due to my birth defect. I knew how important it was to be able to get the proper surgery and care for birth defects. Easter Seals helps families get that care. I was able to connect with children that had the same issues I had/have and understood the importance of getting the defect corrected. I enjoy giving back and helping others, so it was something I was close to and I was able to help by participating in fundraisers, like the annual Easter Seals “Walk With Me.”

What does this scholarship mean to you?

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship supports me in obtaining and setting new goals in my life, with school and what I want to do in the future. It is like gas in a car. It helps me get from point A to point B to point C and so on. Since the cost for further education is high, it has helped me get to college and pursue my goals.

How do you plan to pay it forward as a recipient of this scholarship?

With the scholarship, I will be able to advance my knowledge and skills and use those abilities to help others financially, academically, mentally, or physically. This will promote growth and extend others’ abilities.
