Meet The Friends of Austin
We are inspired by our friends, Mark and Hannah Corman, whose son Austin was born with a fatal form of congenital muscular dystrophy called L-CMD, primarily affecting the muscles & heart. Kids with an L-CMD diagnosis statistically die in their teens. There are currently no treatments and no cure. Austin’s family has started the non-profit L-CMD Research Foundation to urgently raise funds to develop a gene therapy treatment with a major academic research institution. The goal? $2 million. L-CMD Research Foundation has created a fundraising campaign, “2 Before 2!” which aims to raise $2 million before Austin’s 2nd birthday on August 27th. Friends of Austin presents the 2 Before 2! Golf Outing, benefiting the L-CMD Research Foundation, to help reach this important goal.
About LCMD Research Foundation
- Many children with L-CMD do not achieve sitting, crawling, walking; and those that do will lose those abilities. There are about 200 kids in the world with L-CMD
- Kids with L-CMD will eventually lose the ability to walk, if they ever even gain that ability L-CMD not only affects the skeletal muscles but also the heart; many children end up with implanted heart monitors.
- Most cases of L-CMD are not inherited but are a result of a randomly-occurring DNA mutation.
- There are currently no treatments and no cure.
