Competing for a Cause!

The Emerging Philanthropist Program (EPP), a partnership between Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) and The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) will be hosting its first-ever Harrisburg Hoopla! Our goal is to unite the local community, boost our economy, and raise money for local nonprofit organizations through friendly track and field competitions.

Harrisburg Hoopla will be a full day event consisting of teams competing in various sports & activities. Each team will represent a local nonprofit organization of their choice and compete to donate a portion of the event’s proceeds to their favorite charity!


There’s nothing better than celebrating the end of a great event with great music. Join us in celebrating our community with live music from two local bands. During the concert, we will announce the Harrisburg Hoopla team winners and the amount of funds raised for our community. The band names will be announced closer to the event day.

About the Emerging Philanthropist Program (EPP)

The “Harrisburg Hoopla” field day is an event founded by EPP. This program teaches young professionals the process and importance of grant making in the nonprofit community, while providing resources and educational opportunities for Harrisburg’s developing leaders who wish to be actively engaged in giving back to their community. The experience culminates with class members applying their newly learned community and grantmaking skills by awarding a grant to a nonprofit organization. Participants choose the funding area based on their community needs assessment. After a competitive grantmaking process, a one-time $5,000 grant is awarded to a local nonprofit organization. To date, the Emerging Philanthropist Program has granted $15,000 to local nonprofit organizations. The Emerging Philanthropist Fund is an endowment fund used to ensure the $5,000 awards become sustainable for future participants. Food and alcohol vendors will be available on site!

Fund Allocations

This event will donate 100% of the total proceeds raised to nonprofit organizations, including EPP.

1st Place | 30% of total proceeds

2nd Place | 20% of total proceeds

3rd Place | 10% of total proceeds

40% of total proceeds will go to EPP, with 30% going to the Emerging Philanthropist Fund at TFEC and 10% going towards next year’s event.

All represented nonprofit organizations must be a local organization within the Harrisburg Region and must be a registered 501(c)(3).

  • Tug-o-War
  • Wheelbarrow Relay Race
  • Volleyball
  • Relay of Relay Races
    • Three legged Relay Race
    • Egg Race
    • Potato Sack Race
    • Pool Noodle Javelin Throw
  • Water Balloon Catch
  • Dizzy Bat Waiter Race
  • Corn hole (Tie Breaker)
