“Our Challenge for Giving”

The Greater Harrisburg Foundation (GHF), a regional foundation of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC), conducts an annual competitive grantmaking program for nonprofit organizations serving the counties of Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, Perry, and the Dillsburg Area.

GHF’s goal is to inspire nonprofits that are aligned with GHF’s priorities to increase their capacity to attract new donors to their mission. GHF cannot support the needs of our community alone; all of us need to commit to making this region a vital and healthy community. To advance this work, GHF has established Our Challenge for Giving, a challenge grant initiative for the local nonprofit community.

Our Challenge for Giving is GHF’s commitment to award up to $7,500 to increase the number of new private donors, reengage lapsed donors (over 12 months since last donation) and to promote increased gifts of current donors. The grant initiative will maintain the traditional funding priorities of GHF, which include arts & culture, community development, education, environment and health & human services.

Organizations with total operating budgets up to $250,000:

• $1 to $1 match
• GHF will double any contribution from new private donors, lapsed donors (over 12 months since last donation), and increased gifts of current donors (increased portion of their gift) up to $500 per donation, up to a total of $7,500.
• Organization raises $7,500; GHF matches raise for a total of $15,000 in new money.

Organizations with total operating budgets between $250,000 and $1 million:

• $3 to $1 match
• GHF will incentivize any contribution from new private donors, lapsed donors (over 12 months since last donation), and increased gifts of current donors (increased portion of their gift) up to $500 per donation, up to a total of $7,500.
• Organization raises $22,500; GHF matches raise with $7,500 for a total of $30,000 in new money.
