George M. and Mary Jane Leader Scholarship

This fund was established after the passing of Mr. and Mrs. Leader with the intent to support and motivate youth from the City of Harrisburg to attend Harrisburg Area Community College, or participate in college in high school, and succeed in college level work. The George M. and Mary Jane Leader Scholarship was established specifically to support students from the Harrisburg School District attending John Harris High School, Sci-Tech High School, The Cougar Academy and The Harrisburg Virtual Learning Academy attending HACC to take college-level courses.

Scholarship FAQs

Criteria

Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  1. Current junior or senior attending: Cougar Academy, Harrisburg Virtual Learning Academy, John-Harris, Sci-Tech, or Steelton-Highspire High School
  2. Plans to attend HACC to take college-level academic courses
  3. Minimum 2.5 GPA
  4. Supplemental documents. This may include a resume, letter(s) of recommendation, transcript, FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR), or other scholarship-specific documents. Specific requirements are noted in the application.

Additional Requirement

Recipients must create a video testimonial showing how helpful this fund has been for them. At the end of the semester, students will be asked to submit to The Foundation for Enhancing Communities their video testimonial.

Renewability

Recipients of this scholarship may apply again. Students must submit a full application but may be prompted to complete a different essay.
