Linda T. Butler Scholarship

Linda T. Butler was born in Harrisburg, PA. She graduated from John Harris High School in 1955, and went on to graduate from Bucknell University in 1959 with a degree in Elementary Education. She then attended Penn State University to earn her Master’s degree in Reading and Education. Linda traveled and taught overseas with the Department of Defense.  She has taught in Libya, Scotland, and Japan along with teaching in California and the Harrisburg Area. Linda married Rudolph Butler in 1966. They settled in Susquehanna Township and raised two children in our school district. They currently reside in Susquehanna Township. Linda has spent her entire life dedicated to the education of children. She has given countless time and money for educational causes and she has served our district and the area for 40 years in volunteer roles.    

Linda served on the Susquehanna Township School Board for 38 1/2 years and has served as President, Vice President and Treasurer on the board. During her time on the Board, she also served as our STSD representative on the Capital Area Intermediate Unit, HACC, Dauphin County Technical School and she is an IDEA Fellow. She has also served as Area 6 Board Member on the Pennsylvania School Board Association. 

This scholarship is a restricted scholarship and has no application. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by a predetermined set a criteria that was created by the donor(s) that established this scholarship.

Criteria

  1. Graduating high school senior from Susquehanna Township High School 
  2. Student must not have received any other monetary scholarships or awards 
  3. Preference is given to students who were slow starters at the beginning of their high school career, but is finishing their career on a strong note 
  4. Evidence of strong character 
  5. Evidence of Susquehanna Township High School pride 
  6. Financial need
