Lou Drane Fund Music Scholarship

Income of the Lou Drane Fund and the Joseph L. and Vivian E. Steele Fund is used annually to grant scholarships to students of classical music in the fields of composition, teaching, and performance. There is only one application to complete through the universal application.

Scholarship FAQ

Criteria

  1. Serious interest in classical music and display exceptional ability and/or creativity 
  2. Must apply for financial aid from the school you plan to attend 
  3. Financial need
  4. Must maintain a permanent residence in one of the following counties in central Pennsylvania: Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Snyder, or York 
  5. Must attend or plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning 
  6. Essay
  7. Supplemental documents. This may include a resume, letter(s) of recommendation, transcript, FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR), or other scholarship-specific documents. This includes recordings/videos not exceeding 20 minutes of your compositions and/or performances. Specific requirements are noted in the application.

NOTE: Finalists will be notified by early April and will be required to attend a live audition in early May / June  in Harrisburg. A short interview may follow the audition. Directions and parking instructions will be mailed with audition invitations.

Renewability

Recipients of this scholarship may apply again. Students must submit a full application but may be prompted to complete a different essay.
