By Teri Jakob, Women’s Fund Advisory Committee Member
Norma Gotwalt was an inspiration and advocate for women. Among her noted accomplishments she was appointed by Governor Schweiker to be the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women. We knew her as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Women’s Fund of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. Norma established the Norma Gotwalt Women’s Grantmaking Fund to provide an increase in the amount of grants awarded annually by the Women’s Fund. Norma passed March 3, 2017.
Karen F. Snider was a mentor and a tireless supporter for human services. She was a former Secretary of the PA Department of Human Services. Throughout her life Karen was focused on community and charitable activities; she was a member of the TFEC Board and the Women’s Fund Advisory Committee. Karen was the inaugural recipient of the Women in Philanthropy Award, which has since been named in her honor. Karen embodied the criteria of this award through her work related to women’s health, education and economic self-sufficiency. Karen passed January 12, 2017.
What did these two incredible women have in common? They understood the power of collective philanthropy. In addition to being an inspiration to all, they were both inspired to improve the lives of others. These women built legacies.
Have you considered what your legacy will be?
There are many ways your dollars can address issues pertinent to women and girls, including becoming a Dream Team member, sponsoring our events such as the Power of the Purse and Grantee Recognition Breakfast, or by making a planned gift. Simply stated, planned giving is a donation arranged now to be given at a future date, often through a will or trust. Creating a Women’s Fund legacy gift in your trust or estate plans will provide a way for women and girls to reach their true potential and create a proud legacy for the future.
Please contact Jennifer Doyle at 717.236.5040 or jdoyle@tfec.org to learn more about how your planned gift can support the Women’s Fund.
