Women’s Fund Power of the Purse Raises more than $25,000

By Jennifer Doyle, TFEC VP of Development & Community Investment and Liaison to the Women’s Fund

On November 3, 2017 over 200 community-minded individuals started their weekend early and helped raise more than $25,000 at the Women’s Fund 6th Annual Power of the Purse. The Power of the Purse is the largest fundraising event for the Women’s Fund with the purpose of creating a deeper understanding of a woman’s ability to be philanthropic.

This year’s luncheon held at the West Shore Country Club featured a silent auction with more than 60 gift-filled purses! The event also included the Karen Snider Women in Philanthropy award presentation and Dream Team induction.

The Karen Snider Women in Philanthropy award is given to individuals who are outstanding contributors of their time and talent to benefit the lives of women and girls in our area. The 2017 honorees joined the ranks of 15 other Karen Snider Women in Philanthropy award recipients. This year’s award was especially notable as it was renamed in memory of Karen Snider, a wonderful friend of the Women’s Fund, who passed away earlier this year. Karen, the inaugural recipient of the award in 2011, embodied its criteria – she dedicated her life to improving the lives of others, gave freely and selflessly of her time and resources, and was an inspiration to all who knew her. We were honored to recognize two women who have also exhibited these qualities: Dr. Carolyn C. Dumaresq and Betty C. Hungerford. Click here for more information on this year’s honorees.

Dream Team Induction

During the event, we also inducted 15 new members of the Dream Team and received 14 additional pledges. The Dream Team recognizes individuals who have contributed $1,000 or more to the Women’s Fund. Click here for more information on this year’s inductees.

The Dream Team includes several levels of giving: Dream | $1,000; Create | $2,500; Sustain | $5,000; and Inspire | $10,000
