The start of a new year brings a busy scholarship season for The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC). Scholarships make education possible, and TFEC has more than 120 scholarship funds that are available to local students. Our goal is to provide access to higher education to every student who wants to pursue it.

In 2020, TFEC offered more than 120 scholarship opportunities and awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to 403 local students through various scholarship funds administered by TFEC and through management agreements with the Samuel L. Abrams Foundation and the Leon Lowengard and Ray S. Shoemaker scholarships of BNY Mellon, N.A. Each scholarship expresses a deep belief in education’s power to help today’s youth achieve their dreams.

But that is not all that TFEC has to offer for higher-education funding. TFEC is one of 46 partners with the AES/PHEAA Partnership for Access to Higher Education (PATH) program. During the 2019-2020 academic year, 122 TFEC scholarship recipients received $227,269 in matching funds through the PATH program.

TFEC scholarship recipients are eligible to have their awards matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $3,000. To qualify a student must:
• Be enrolled in an approved Pennsylvania college or career school as an undergraduate student on at least a half-time basis.
• Be a state grant recipient and demonstrate financial need.
• Be a resident of Pennsylvania.
• Not be in default on any educational loans.
• Maintain academic progress
• Not be considered an incarcerated student.

The match provides last-dollar support for tuition and fees. Scholarship recipient information is submitted to PHEAA by TFEC team members with no additional work required by the student. To determine your eligibility, complete and sign the bottom portion of the scholarship acceptance form included in the TFEC scholarship award packet no later than August 31st.

TFEC will nominate students who meet the PATH program criteria for the opportunity to receive a PATH award. Scholarship funds used for reimbursement of textbook purchases are not eligible for a PATH Program match.
